English based publisher Senior Games has launched a Kickstarter campaign for Heroes of the Shire, a turn-based fantasy adventure game for 1 – 6 players. Designed by Damian Senior and featuring artwork by Edwin Hieo, Heroes of the Shire features a heavy emphasis on story progression and levelling up your character harking back to the classic “choose your own adventure” style of books and games from yesterday. In addition to being able to play through scenarios either cooperatively or solo, the game system also features competitive play in the form of an arena mode where you can duke it out with your friends in a variety of battle modes. As for the solo mode, publisher Senior Games describes the solitaire aspect of Heroes of the Shire as follows:

“Players will be required to embody 2 heroes during a scenario, alongside rolling dice to determine which enemy spells gets cast. As a scenario unfolds and tiles are explored, enemy units will be summoned to battle. These spells which are usually chosen by the villain player should now instead be chosen at random by a D6 dice roll.

Our solo mode add-on offers a true solo mode experience, for players to run a scenario embodying 1 hero of their choice. Whilst exploring tiles in scenario mode, action cards are frequently used. Our solo mode add-on has some exclusive actions that are not available in the regular action card deck. These new actions help keep the balance of a solo adventure. Allies are found on a solo mode journey, of which many will offer up their services to help you.”
